The Martini Effect – Chapter 20 (Marylou Speaks in Haiku)
Chapter 20.1
(20.1)
(We rejoin our pair…
…our drunken protagonists…
…on Sixth Avenue.)
What said Marylou…
…walking down Sixth Avenue…
…skies a sunless hue:
“Empire city…
…spindle of the universe…
…up above our heads.
Around it we go…
…many nights we see the glow…
…of its high-lit show.
It has to be said…
…facing the dark pall ahead…
…we stand in good stead.
We make our way through…
…Marylou speaks in haiku…
…so much ballyhooooooooo.”
Marylou walks on…
…breathing the cold night aura…
…and yodels once more:
“So much ballyhoo…
…I ask, ‘King Kong, where are you…
…climbing the tower???”
A kind of madness…
…has taken over our crawl…
…under sunless skies.
A sort of madness…
…makes Marylou sing and dance…
…as the deep night dies.
Chapter 20.2
(20.2)
Marylou dances…
…under light from the tower…
…the buzz of the booze.
We head farther down…
…the length of Sixth Avenue…
…with nothing to lose.
Plotting our course to…
…the end of the universe…
…in sensible shoes.
(We leave our heroes…
…bound to new reaches unkown…
To be continued…)
